As college football season approaches, Norfolk State University is preparing for increased attendance at its games. The City of Norfolk, Hampton Roads Transit (HRT), and Norfolk State University have announced several transportation and parking measures to help fans get to the stadium.
Parking on campus will be limited, and restrictions are in place in nearby neighborhoods. Officials warn that “No Parking” signs will be strictly enforced with ticketing and towing.
To address these challenges, the three organizations are providing free parking options at MacArthur South and North Garages for game attendees. Shuttle buses operated by NSU will transport fans from MacArthur South Garage directly to the stadium.
Additionally, MacArthur Center is located three light rail stops from Norfolk State’s campus. Fans can park at the garage and take The Tide light rail from MacArthur Station to the stadium at no cost. Complimentary rides are available two hours before and after each game.
The closest light rail stations to the stadium are NSU Station (for westbound arrivals) and Ballentine/Broad Creek Station (for eastbound arrivals). Free park-and-ride lots are also available near The Tide’s route: Newtown Road Station offers 267 spaces, Military Highway Station has 235 spaces, and the lot behind EVMC/Fort Norfolk Station is open for Saturday games only.
An online map is available to help fans plan their travel routes, including parking areas and light rail lines (www.norfolk.gov/NSUfootball).
HRT reminds fans to exercise caution around train tracks by using crosswalks and sidewalks. Scooter and bike riders should follow traffic laws; golf carts remain prohibited on city streets.
Fans are encouraged to arrive at least 90 minutes before kickoff to avoid crowds. Tailgating begins four hours before kickoff with guidelines provided online. Only clear bags will be permitted inside the stadium or tailgate area. Gates open two hours prior to kickoff, with advance ticket purchases recommended.
