Congresswoman Jen Kiggans, who represents Virginia’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress, recently highlighted key healthcare and childcare issues in a series of posts on her social media account.
On December 5, 2025, Kiggans posted about a new hospital facility in Smithfield: “Yesterday’s ribbon cutting for @riverside’s Smithfield Hospital with @GovernorVA was an exciting step forward for rural health in Virginia’s Second District. Beginning in January 2026, this facility will offer oncology, cardiology, and primary care services that will bring https://t.co/TD31cO7EVG”. The announcement comes as part of ongoing efforts to improve access to medical care in rural areas of the district.
Later that day, she commented on a bipartisan effort regarding childcare: “This week’s Build America Caucus Childcare Roundtable was a great opportunity to discuss bipartisan ways to bring real relief to American families struggling with childcare costs. As a working Mom of four kids, I’m committed to finding ways to improve access to affordable,”. The post references her participation in congressional discussions aimed at addressing the cost and accessibility of childcare for families across the country.
On December 6, 2025, Kiggans addressed concerns about potential increases in health insurance premiums under the Affordable Care Act (ACA): “Blindsiding the American people who benefit from ACA health insurance premiums with skyrocketing premiums isn’t an option. In #VA02, there are 40,000 constituents that receive their health insurance through the ACA, many of whom I worked with as a nurse practitioner. We can’t”. She referenced her experience as a nurse practitioner and noted the significant number of constituents relying on ACA coverage within her district.
Kiggans has represented Virginia’s 2nd District since 2023 after succeeding Elaine Luria. Before serving in Congress, she was a member of the Virginia Senate from 2020 to 2022. Born in Tampa, Florida in 1971 and currently residing in Virginia Beach, Kiggans holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Old Dominion University.
