Congresswoman Jen Kiggans, who represents Virginia’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress, used her social media platform to address recent legislative actions regarding government funding and to criticize Democratic lawmakers for their approach to averting a federal shutdown.

On September 29, 2025, Kiggans stated that House Republicans had acted to prevent a government shutdown by passing a continuing resolution (CR). She wrote, “.@HouseGOP did our job to pass a clean CR — just like the Democrats voted for 13 times under President Biden. A government shutdown will:

Disrupt critical programs that protect our national security
Withhold pay from hardworking federal employees
Delay the ability for”.

Later that day, she criticized Democratic lawmakers’ stance on the issue. In a post dated September 29, 2025, Kiggans said, “Democrats are willing to shut down the federal government and harm working families to placate their radical, far left base. This is unacceptable and puts our national security in jeopardy.”

On September 30, 2025, Kiggans reiterated her position regarding efforts by House Republicans: “.@HouseGOP has been hard at work passing appropriations bills…but to allow us more time to continue that process, we voted to pass a clean continuing resolution (CR) to fund the government until November 21. Yet instead of voting to keep the government open, Senate Democrats are https://t.co/rs7SBqRDV2”.

Kiggans began serving in Congress in January 2023 after defeating Elaine Luria and previously served in the Virginia Senate from 2020 through 2022. She was born in Tampa, Florida in 1971 and currently resides in Virginia Beach. In addition to her political career, she holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Old Dominion University.
