Congresswoman Jen Kiggans, who represents Virginia’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress, recently posted a series of statements on social media addressing foreign relations, local economic initiatives, and the ongoing government shutdown’s impact on defense workers.

On October 30, 2025, Kiggans emphasized the importance of international alliances by stating, “Our strength on the world stage depends on maintaining a strong relationship with our allies in the Pacific, especially Japan. I’m grateful for strong American leadership that secures stability for our defense supply chains and chooses peace through strength everyday….!”

Later that day, she highlighted her participation in a regional event focused on economic growth. In her post dated October 30, 2025, Kiggans wrote, “It was exciting to join our local officials, stakeholders, and @HRVA_Alliance for the launch of the Hampton Roads Playbook…! With a focus on economic development, defense manufacturing, and energy security, the Hampton Roads Alliance is laying the foundation for growth and”.

Addressing labor concerns during a government shutdown on October 31, 2025, Kiggans stated: “The government shutdown continues to impact the men and women who work in our local shipbuilding and defense industry. In a meeting with our public naval shipyard workers yesterday, I made clear that dysfunction in Washington should never impact the pay of the people that advance”.

Kiggans has represented Virginia’s 2nd District since 2023 after succeeding Elaine Luria. Before her tenure in Congress, she served in the Virginia Senate from 2020 to 2022. Born in Tampa, Florida in 1971 and currently residing in Virginia Beach at age 51, Kiggans holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Old Dominion University earned in 2011.
