Congresswoman Jen Kiggans, representing Virginia’s 2nd district, recently shared her views on several important issues through a series of tweets. These posts highlight her ongoing legislative focus and concerns.
On June 4, 2025, Congresswoman Kiggans expressed concerns regarding outdated standards affecting Army recruitment. In a tweet she stated, “At today’s Army Posture hearing, I raised concerns about how outdated DoDMERB standards are hurting Army recruitment. Too many young Americans who are ready to serve are being delayed or disqualified over childhood diagnoses that no longer reflect their current health.” This highlights the need for updated medical evaluations to better align with current health realities.
The following day, on June 5, 2025, she emphasized the significance of restoring oyster reefs in Coastal Virginia during a subcommittee hearing. She tweeted, “Yesterday in the Water, Wildlife, & Fisheries Subcommittee hearing, I highlighted the importance of restoring oyster reefs for commercial and conservation purposes—a cause that’s personal for us in Coastal Virginia..!!” Her advocacy underscores the environmental and economic benefits associated with healthy oyster reefs.
Later on June 5th, Kiggans addressed mental health care advancements by promoting modern tools for providers through legislative amendments. She announced via Twitter that “Mental health and substance use providers deserve the same modern tools as the rest of our healthcare system.” Her amendment aims to foster collaboration among healthcare providers and technology leaders to enhance electronic systems.
Jen Kiggans has been serving in Congress since replacing Elaine Luria in 2023. Previously serving in the Virginia Senate from 2020 to 2022, she is an alumna of Old Dominion University with a BSN degree obtained in 2011. Born in Tampa but residing in Virginia Beach at age 51, Kiggans continues to engage actively with pressing legislative matters impacting her constituents.
