Congresswoman Jen Kiggans, who represents Virginia’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress, recently addressed issues concerning military families, honored a decorated veteran, and commented on a recent tragedy at Assateague Island National Seashore through her official Twitter account.
On July 28, 2025, Kiggans advocated for improved insurance coverage for military families, stating: “Military families on Tricare deserve the same insurance coverage that civilian insurances offer. Military kids should have the option for coverage up to age 26… just like other civilian insurance plans. I’m proud to introduce our bipartisan bill to fix this so military families https://t.co/zUdeiTa6aE”.
The following day, July 29, 2025, she recognized a Medal of Honor recipient: “Every week, I honor a recipient of the highest military decorations awarded by the United States government, the Medal of Honor. Later that day, Kiggans expressed condolences regarding an incident at Assateague Island National Seashore: “I am saddened to hear about the loss of life on Assateague Island National Seashore last week. While tragedy can occur at any moment, we must ensure that lifeguards remain stationed at Assateague Island during the summer months. My prayers are with the family impacted by this”.
Kiggans has served in Congress since 2023 after replacing Elaine Luria and previously held office in the Virginia Senate from 2020 to 2022. She was born in Tampa, Florida in 1971 and currently resides in Virginia Beach. Kiggans earned her BSN from Old Dominion University in 2011.
