Congresswoman Jen Kiggans, who represents Virginia’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress, used her social media platform to address concerns over a government shutdown and its impact on her constituents.

On October 2, 2025, Kiggans wrote, “#VA02 can’t afford this government shutdown. It’s a disruption to the very families, servicemembers, and seniors we were elected to represent. I came to Congress to serve my fellow Virginians, not play politics. I urge my colleagues in the Senate, regardless of party, to put https://t.co/8qPvsz4iLV”.

The following day, she emphasized the significance of legislation aimed at supporting military personnel during the shutdown: “As we navigate this government shutdown, my Pay Our Troops Act is more important than ever.

Later that same day, Kiggans referenced feedback from her constituents regarding congressional responsibility during funding negotiations: “In a recent poll I sent out, 75.3% of respondents stated that they believe Congress should keep the government open while we work out spending differences. I agree! That’s why I voted to fund the government. Unfortunately, most House and Senate Democrats disagreed and voted to https://t.co/gB3tgvmqcQ” (October 3, 2025).

Kiggans has represented Virginia’s 2nd District since 2023 after succeeding Elaine Luria and previously served in the Virginia Senate from 2020 to 2022.
