Congresswoman Jen Kiggans, who represents Virginia’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress, has used her social media platform to communicate with constituents regarding the ongoing government shutdown and the services her office continues to provide.

On October 1, 2025, Kiggans informed the public that her office remains operational during the shutdown. She wrote, “My Congressional office remains open during the government shutdown. For updates on federal agency impacts, please use this link: https://t.co/6AK1rlKHM3 https://t.co/HANjj5ex9q”.

The following day, she highlighted constituent services provided by her team. In a post dated October 2, 2025, Kiggans stated, “Do you need help with a federal agency? My office recently assisted Bonnie from Virginia Beach with an issue at the Social Security Administration. Whether it’s securing a passport, resolving a VA claim, or navigating another federal service, my team is here to serve you. Reach https://t.co/oKQ7JwdjgM”.

Later that same day, Kiggans addressed congressional compensation during the shutdown period. She posted on October 2, 2025: “I have requested that my pay be withheld during the shutdown. Members of Congress shouldn’t be paid while hardworking Americans are held hostage at the hands of this partisan Democrat shutdown.”

Kiggans began serving in Congress in 2023 after replacing Elaine Luria and previously served in the Virginia Senate from 2020 to 2022. Born in Tampa, Florida in 1971 and currently residing in Virginia Beach, she holds a BSN from Old Dominion University (2011).
