Congresswoman Jen Kiggans, who represents Virginia’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress, marked National Aviation Day and highlighted issues of shipbuilding and defense workforce development in a series of posts on August 19, 2025.
In her first post, Kiggans celebrated her family’s aviation legacy, writing on August 19: “Happy National Aviation Day! As a former Navy Helicopter pilot, wife of a retired Navy pilot and Mom to a current Navy pilot, flying is a BIG part of the Kiggans family…! To all the pilots out there, wishing you a safe and fun day in the air! #FlyNavy”
Later that day, she turned attention to national security concerns regarding shipbuilding. On August 19 she stated: “Thank you to @RepTimMooreNC for bringing the issue of shipbuilding to the forefront during last week’s @FinancialCmte hearing…! The United States must prioritize our shipbuilding and defense manufacturing to stay ahead of China. Investing in shipbuilding in Hampton Roads”
Kiggans also addressed workforce integration within national defense sectors. In her third post from August 19 she wrote: “I’m proud to have the endorsement of the @ProbSolveCaucus for the Defense Workforce Integration Act. By creating new civilian pathways into our national defense workforce, we’re opening the door for more Americans to answer the call to serve and strengthen our country in the”
Kiggans has represented Virginia’s 2nd District since replacing Elaine Luria in 2023. Before her tenure in Congress, she served in the Virginia Senate from 2020 to 2022. She was born in Tampa, Florida in 1971 and currently resides in Virginia Beach. In addition to her legislative work, Kiggans holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Old Dominion University.
