Tim Anderson, a candidate for the Virginia House of Delegates in District 97, has criticized Attorney General candidate Jay Jones for his violent remarks. Anderson described these comments as indefensible and questioned why Michael Feggans has not condemned them. This statement was made on the social media platform X.
“Instead of taking full responsibility, he blamed ‘Trump-controlled media,” said Anderson. “Michael Feggans built his political career with Jay Jones at his side. If even Abigail Spanberger has condemned this, why is Michael Feggans still hiding? Silence is complicity. Friendship is accountability.”
A report by National Review revealed private text messages from Democratic Attorney General nominee Jay Jones, containing violent and disturbing comments about former Virginia House Speaker Todd Gilbert and other Republican colleagues. The revelation has led to bipartisan criticism, with several Virginia leaders calling for accountability and condemnation of Jones’ statements.
According to the Virginia Public Access Project, House District 97 includes parts of Virginia Beach and Chesapeake. The 2025 race features Republican challenger Tim Anderson against incumbent Democrat Michael Feggans. Historically competitive, the district was decided by less than 1,500 votes in the previous cycle, making it a key target for both parties this November.
In the National Review report, Jones was quoted as writing that if he had two bullets and faced a choice between Adolf Hitler, Pol Pot, and then-Speaker Todd Gilbert, he “would shoot Gilbert twice every time.” He also referred to attending Republican colleagues’ funerals to “piss on their graves.” These texts were confirmed by multiple sources and condemned by both parties.
Additional text messages reported by National Review show Jones wrote that if his Republican colleagues “die before me,” he would “go to their funerals to piss on their graves” and “send them out awash in something.” These messages were sent to GOP Delegate Carrie Coyner, who swiftly denounced them as “not just disturbing but disqualifying for anyone who wants to seek public office.” The comments have intensified bipartisan criticism of Jones’ conduct and raised questions about his fitness to serve.
