Hampton Roads Transit offers free rides on Election Day to support voter turnout

Residents of Norfolk and the broader Hampton Roads area will be able to use all Hampton Roads Transit (HRT) services for free on Election Day, Tuesday, November 4. The initiative covers buses, light rail, ferry, Paratransit, and OnDemand rideshare options. The measure aims to help voters reach polling locations more easily.

“With free access to HRT’s comprehensive transit solutions throughout Hampton Roads, we are once again doing our part to facilitate mobility on Election Day,” said William E. Harrell, President and CEO.

HRT offers four fare-free days each year. In addition to Election Day, residents can ride at no cost on Transit Equity Day (February 9), Earth Day (April 22), and Juneteenth (June 19).

For those seeking information about their polling location or other election details, resources are available through Virginia’s Department of Elections. Trip planning can be done using HRT’s System Map.
