Tim Anderson, a candidate for the Virginia House of Delegates, has said that House District 97 (HD97) could be pivotal in determining control of the chamber. He criticized Democrats’ spending and urged support for his campaign in a statement made on Facebook.
“HD97 is the most important race to both sides,” said Anderson, according to Facebook. “If Democrats lose this seat – they lose the majority. This is why they are spending $200k a week on tv raised from California donors to calls anyone who doesn’t support them maga maniacs. Democrats cannot have control of the House.”
Virginia’s 2025 House elections are seen as crucial, with Democrats currently holding a narrow 51–49 majority following the 2023 elections. According to observers, HD97 in Virginia Beach is considered a top-tier battleground where Democratic Delegate Michael Feggans faces former Delegate Tim Anderson. The race is noted for its competitiveness, significant spending, and potential impact on which party will control the House in the next session. This has made HD97 a focal point for statewide mobilization and national attention.
Nonpartisan finance trackers indicate that HD97 is attracting substantial financial contributions ahead of the November 4, 2025 general election. As per the latest update from the Virginia Public Access Project (VPAP), Democrat Michael Feggans has reported raising approximately $378,423 with $141,359 cash on hand. In contrast, Republican Tim Anderson has raised about $240,837 with $120,062 cash on hand. The district’s “Competitive” rating highlights the high interest from both parties and allied groups. These figures underscore why the contest is drawing significant advertising and ground activity.
All 100 House seats are up for election in 2025. Following the 2023 elections, Democrats hold a slim majority of 51–49 in the chamber, meaning that a single-seat swing could shift power. The House meets in Richmond as part of Virginia’s bicameral General Assembly, and biennial elections often hinge on competitive districts like HD97 where outcomes depend on voter turnout and late-breaking spending. Understanding this context explains why parties view HD97 as decisive for setting the next term’s agenda.
Anderson is a Republican attorney and former member of the Virginia House of Delegates who was elected in 2021 to represent the 83rd District before resigning in 2023 to run for Virginia Senate’s 19th District. A small-business owner from Virginia Beach, he has focused on public safety, parental rights, and limiting taxes and regulations. His current campaign targets the reconfigured HD97 centered in Virginia Beach, positioning it as critical to flipping control of the House and advancing a pro-growth, law-and-order platform.
