Congresswoman Jen Kiggans, representing Virginia’s 2nd district since 2023, shared insights on her work and legislative initiatives via social media. A Navy veteran with a background in nursing, Kiggans engages actively in policy discussions and seeks to enhance military recruitment through proposed legislation.
On May 6, 2025, Kiggans posted about the favorable weather conditions in Washington D.C., stating “It’s sunny and 75 degrees today in our nation’s capital and we are hard at work for the American people!” The tweet underscored her commitment to serving constituents amidst a pleasant day.
Later that day, she announced her introduction of the SERVE Act, aimed at inspiring youth to consider military service. She noted her personal connection as a veteran by stating “As a Navy veteran, I know America’s military is only as strong as the young men and women who step forward to serve.” The bill aims to foster leadership and educational opportunities among the nation’s youth.
In another post made shortly after, Kiggans emphasized the bipartisan nature of the SERVE Act. She expressed gratitude towards fellow lawmakers involved in its promotion by writing “This bipartisan, bicameral bill is vital to expand military recruitment.” Her message acknowledged Representatives Lance Gooden, Chrissy Houlahan, Jimmy Panetta, and Senator Joni Ernst for their collaboration on this legislative effort.
Kiggans was born in Tampa but now resides in Virginia Beach. She graduated from Old Dominion University with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree in 2011. Prior to Congress, she served from 2020-2022 in the Virginia Senate.
