Providing reliable, high-quality, and affordable water remains central to the mission of the Public Utilities Department in Chesapeake. The department produces approximately 15.5 million gallons of water daily for about 69,649 billable accounts. To ensure quality, hundreds of thousands of analyses are conducted annually throughout the treatment process. Water quality sampling is performed in approximately 400 homes and businesses across the city to demonstrate ongoing performance and commitment to excellence.

The federal Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) establishes standards for drinking water. An annual water quality report is a requirement under these standards. Residents are encouraged to review the City of Chesapeake’s 2024 Water Quality Report to learn how the city consistently meets or exceeds SDWA standards.
