Chesapeake Regional Healthcare was named an honoree of The Civic 50 Hampton Roads, an annual program that recognizes the most community-minded companies in the region.
The Civic 50 Hampton Roads initiative, run in partnership with VOLUNTEER Hampton Roads and Points of Light, honors companies based on their community engagement and social impact, including how they invest time, skills and resources to support local needs.
The award is determined through an independently administered survey that evaluates corporate social impact practices such as volunteerism, community investment and integration of civic engagement across an organization’s operations.
Reese Jackson, president and CEO of Chesapeake Regional Healthcare, said the honor reflects the system’s long-standing roots in community service, including support for local events, partnerships with organizations like Habitat for Humanity and efforts to bring health services into underserved neighborhoods.
Donna Runyan, chief human resources officer, described the recognition as validation of Chesapeake Regional’s approach to community partnership, saying it demonstrates measurable action in addressing social and economic factors that affect health in Hampton Roads.
The Civic 50 Hampton Roads designation places Chesapeake Regional among a group of companies from a range of industries that are acknowledged regional leaders in civic engagement. Participation in the program also provides benchmarking data and best practices for growing community impact efforts.
Chesapeake Regional Healthcare operates the region’s only independent, community-based acute care hospital and a network of outpatient locations. In addition to traditional medical services, the system has expanded programs such as a mobile health clinic and targeted community health initiatives in response to local needs.
