Chesapeake Public Schools opens applications for specialized academic programs

Chesapeake Public Schools has announced a unified application period for several of its specialized academic programs for the 2026-2027 school year. The application window will run from October 15 to November 5, 2025.

The programs included in this new application window are designed for both high school and middle school students. High school options include the Governor’s STEM Academy, Science and Medicine Academy, International Baccalaureate, and Chesapeake Career Center (CCC). For middle school students, the SmithTech: School of Computer Science, Innovation and Design is available.

Eligibility requirements differ by program. Current fifth-grade students can apply to SmithTech, which covers grades 6 through 8. Eighth-grade students may apply to any of the three high school academies, with curricula spanning grades 9 to 12. Students currently in grades 9 through 11 are eligible to apply to the Chesapeake Career Center. Information about CCC programs can be found on their course offerings webpage.

To help families learn more about these opportunities, the district will host several events:
– A virtual High School Academies Webinar on Tuesday, October 14, requiring registration.
– Experience CCC at Chesapeake Career Center on Wednesday, October 15.
– Envision Night at Chesapeake Conference Center on Monday, October 22.
