The 2025 summer schedule for Chesapeake Public Schools will commence on Monday, June 16, and conclude on Thursday, August 21. During this period, district twelve-month employees and summer school programs will operate on a four-day workweek. Schools and administrative offices will extend their hours from Monday to Thursday, opening from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., while remaining closed on Fridays.

In observance of Juneteenth and Independence Day, all schools and offices will be closed on Thursday, June 19, and Thursday, July 3.

Chesapeake Public Schools is participating in the Summer Food Service Program. Meals will be provided free of charge to all children on a first-come, first-served basis. Children must stay onsite while consuming their meals. All meal sites will close on July 3 in observance of the July 4th holiday. Families with students attending summer school at Deep Creek Central, Butts Road Intermediate, or Hickory High School need an approved free and reduced meal application by June 30; otherwise, they must pay for meals.

Virginia SUN Bucks returns this summer to assist eligible families with grocery costs during the break when most schools are not in session.

For those new to Chesapeake or with children who recently turned five years old, enrollment for the 2025-2026 school year is now open online through the Chesapeake Public Schools website.

The district’s web calendar will feature updated events throughout the summer. Additional resources include PeachJar Flyers highlighting youth camps at middle and high schools and a suggested reading list featuring staff picks and Virginia Readers’ Choice Titles.

Chesapeake Public Schools offers various instructional programs this summer based on student grade levels from the previous school year. Programs depend on sufficient enrollment and available instructional staff.

Families should ensure compliance with Virginia’s physical and immunization requirements ahead of the next school year. The district encourages families to check local events for physical examinations and immunizations necessary for school entry regulations. Rising seventh and twelfth graders may need updated medical documentation before classes start; if records are incomplete, families will be contacted directly over the summer.

The upcoming academic year begins Tuesday, September 2. Printable versions of the academic calendar are available online.
